Who we are

This website is run by elevating (“we”, “us”), a UK website design business run by Carl. We are the data controller for personal information collected through elevating.co.uk. You can contact us about anything in this notice at hello@elevating.co.uk.

What we collect, and why

When you use our contact form, we receive what you type in: your name, business name, email address, phone number (if you give it), your current website address (if you give it), what you need help with, and your message.

We use it to reply to you, to carry out a free website review if you ask for one, and to prepare a quote. The legal basis is our legitimate interests in answering enquiries, and, where you ask for a quote or become a customer, taking steps towards and carrying out a contract with you.

When you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use it in the same way.

When you become a customer, we also keep the details needed to deliver and invoice the work, such as your billing contact and the content you give us for your website.

We don't use your information for marketing unless you have asked us to, and we never sell it.

Who helps us handle it

We use a small number of trusted providers, who handle information only on our instructions:

• Netlify hosts this website and runs the contact form.
• Resend delivers contact form messages to our inbox by email.
• Zoho provides our email inbox.
• Cloudflare runs Turnstile, the check on our contact form that stops spam robots.

Some of these providers process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they use legally recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or standard contractual clauses.

Our web host keeps short-term technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the website. We don't use them to identify visitors.

Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies and uses no advertising or tracking tools. Our fonts are hosted on our own site, so your browser doesn't contact third parties to show them.

The one exception is the contact page, which loads Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a robot, is sending the form. To do that, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser details. It is used only to fight spam, not for advertising or to track you across websites. Cloudflare's privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Two small things are stored only in your own browser, and never sent to us:

• A note that you've already seen our introduction film, so it doesn't play by itself on your next visit.
• A temporary copy of a contact form you're filling in, so your words aren't lost if sending fails. It's cleared when you close the tab.

You can clear these at any time in your browser settings.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries that don't lead to work: deleted within 12 months.
• Customer records, such as invoices and project details: kept for 6 years after our work ends, because UK tax law requires it.

Your rights

You can ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop or limit how we use it. You can also object to us using it on the basis of legitimate interests. Email hello@elevating.co.uk and we'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Customers' websites

If we build or look after your website, any information your own visitors send through it (for example, your contact form) belongs to you. We handle it only on your behalf, under the data processing terms in our agreement with you.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we use personal information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
